Chennai, Tamil Nadu | 23rd August 2025

The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) 2025 continued in with the 2nd round at the Madras International Circuit in. Day 1 delivered close qualifying battles and hard, clean racing on a circuit that rewarded precision and race craft. Having rained heavily over the previous night, track evolution was significant throughout the qualifying sessions.

After taking pole position for IRL Race 1, Shahan Ali Mohsin (Speed Demons Delhi) got off to a strong start and quickly pulled away from the pack to secure victory. Alister Yoong (Speed Demons Delhi) launched brilliantly from third on the grid, overtaking Aqil Alibhai (Chennai Turbo Riders) who had started second.

While Mohsin built a comfortable gap out front, Yoong delivered a stellar defensive drive to keep the chasing pack at bay. On the final corner of the last lap, Alibhai made a desperate lunge for second place. The fight went all the way to the line in a photo finish, with Alibhai narrowly snatching P2.

Although Yoong would have preferred to hold on for a Speed Demons Delhi 1–2, his dogged defense ensured Mohsin could cruise to victory at the Madras International Circuit.

Shahan Ali Mohsin: “First of all, I would like to thank God. It feels great to be back on the podium after a long time. Last year we had a great season, but I couldn’t perform well due to some reasons. But of course, it feels great to win, and a very good job by the team for preparing the car, and especially to Alistair for coming P3. I mean, it’s a fantastic thing.”

Round 2 – Indian Racing League Provisional Results (Driver A):

Shahan Ali Mohsin (26:38.876) – Winner

Aqil Alibhai (26:45.238) – Runner-up

Alister Yoong (26:45.263) – 2nd Runner-up

Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4 Indian)

Race 1 had the perfect setup with Sachel Rotge and Ishaan Madesh lining up on the front row. Both drivers had delivered impressive performances in the previous round at Coimbatore. In Chennai, Rotge outpaced his rivals with a decisive overtake just over five minutes from the finish. That move gave him the clear air he needed to secure victory for the Kichcha Kings Bengaluru.

One of the standout drives of the day came from Ghazi Motlekar, who started down in 10th. He carved his way through the field, overtaking seven cars to claim 2nd place at the Madras International Circuit. He was followed closely by Annabel Kennedy who took the final spot on the podium.

Sachel Rotge: “I was not expecting this at all. But when I did the installation laps, I realized, okay, the puddles have dried, the feeling was different. I just carried along with it. I think I got a better understanding of Ishaan ahead of me. I was able to pass him in a pretty tough spot. So yeah, very happy.”
